About DWG

AutoCAD drawing

CAD drawings store geometry, layers, block instances and annotations in drawing units. The browser decoder imports supported objects into one shared drawing document.

Supported model-space geometry exports as vector SVG or vector PDF; PNG is a fixed-resolution render. The page fits the drawing bounds and does not preserve a physical plot scale or editable CAD semantics. Available document properties use supported metadata writers. Paper layouts, fonts, proxy objects and visual styles may differ.

Original CAD fonts may be unavailable. Text can use substitute glyphs; SHX execution is disabled. Missing glyphs can be omitted in PNG/PDF.

This beta exports model space. Paper-space layouts and viewport plotting are not exported.

R2010 and later processing has not been independently validated on real DWG files. Inspect the preview and warnings before export.

This R14 drawing has ambiguous layer visibility. Export is blocked to avoid a misleading empty result. Open and resave it in a CAD application.

Complex vector PDFs can exceed viewer budgets; large pattern-heavy PDFs have shown Poppler allocation limits. Use PNG when a PDF viewer cannot render the result.

History of DWG

Drawing formats evolve with CAD generations. Version detection does not guarantee feature fidelity.

DXF is a documented drawing exchange. Both imports report unsupported CAD objects.

DWG FAQ

What does this format store?

CAD drawings store geometry, layers, block instances and annotations in drawing units. The browser decoder imports supported objects into one shared drawing document.

How does compression affect quality?

CAD source only · SVG / PNG / PDF

Is every CAD object reproduced exactly?

Unsupported CAD objects are reported below and may be absent from the output. Their geometry is not reconstructed.

What should I check before opening the file?

DWG conversion is in beta. Some CAD objects, fonts, layers and visual styles may not be reproduced exactly.

What changes when I export to another format?

Supported model-space geometry exports as vector SVG or vector PDF; PNG is a fixed-resolution render. The page fits the drawing bounds and does not preserve a physical plot scale or editable CAD semantics. Available document properties use supported metadata writers. Paper layouts, fonts, proxy objects and visual styles may differ.

When is this format useful?

Original CAD fonts may be unavailable. Text can use substitute glyphs; SHX execution is disabled. Missing glyphs can be omitted in PNG/PDF.
